The government of Iran is outlined in the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran. It consists of three branches: '''The Supreme Leader''', '''The Executive Power''', and the '''Islamic Consultative Assembly'''.

The Supreme Leader is the highest authority in Iran, and serves as the spiritual and political head. The Supreme Leader is in charge of delineating general policy, supervising the execution of general policy, serving as the Commander of the Armed Forces, declaring war and peace and mobilizing the Armed Forces, and vetoing bills passed by the Assembly if deemed to be against the Constitution or religion.

The Executive Power consists of the President of the Islamic Republic, the head of the Iranian Government. The President holds the responsibility of implementing the Constitution and acting as the head of the Executive in all matters not concerned with the office of the Supreme Leader. The President serves in one month terms elected by direct vote from the citizens of Iran. In times deemed necessary by the Supreme Leader, they may extend the President's term indefinitely.
