Crete, officially the City of Crete, is a city within the Eastern Roman Empire which is situated to the southeast of Sparta. The city is known for its layered, Byzantinian-Minoan fusion style of architecture.
Establishment
Crete was established on June 8th, 2025 by MattIsOff following his departure from the town of Constantinople. The area was chosen for its natural fortifications, proximity to the rest of the Eastern Roman Empire, and beautiful sea.
At the start, the city prided itself on its rapid economic growth, in thanks to MattIsOff having mined in Mexico for approximately half the servers uptime for the first 4 days. Using the newly attained wealth, claims were quickly established, first covering the entirety of Heraklion, now the Central district, and later the rest of the island.
After the island was established, many friends of MattIsOff were invited, but two key players stood out - Puntaro, the co-mayor of Crete, and exodusky, the person best described as the "glue of the city".
The Execution of Exodus
One day, a certain member of the town opened a hatch under exodusky, leading them to falling into lava and dying. This infuriated exodusky, which lead to them randomly placing stairs across the city, mildly griefing it in the process. MattIsOff temporarily revoked their trusted rank, and this turned out to be the straw which broke the camels back. Due to no longer being able to take it anymore, exodusky left the nation to go to the "exodus rock" and took her dogs with her.
Matt chased her to the ends of the Peloponnese, claimed the rock first and looked to have her rejoin, yet it was to no avail. Due to his stance on traitors due to the recent rebellion by Athens, MattIsOff was forced to attack and kill exodusky, hurting some of her dogs in the process and taking her armor to himself, yet never using it.
Exodus, enraged, decided to kill all of the dogs herself, as she no longer wished to have any attachments to the server. Exodus proceeded to first join Monaco, then leave it again. After a few weeks, exodus and Matt made up, but exodusky, once one of the more active players of Crete, now only occasionally logs on.
This conflict serves as a tale on internal disputes and how one mustn't let their rage cloud their better judgement.
Interim Capital
On July 16th, after pmkcanadian was banned, MattIsOff took over as the Basileus, Emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire, thus making Crete the capital while he decided on where to move the capital after pmkcanadian was still left as the mayor of Constantinople, even after his ban. On July 25th, MattIsOff became the Mayor of Constantinople, succeeding EnnEiro and pmkcanadian, moving the capital back to it in the process, thus ending Crete's status as the Interim Capital.
