Overview

Lumen (also known as V5) was the fifth iteration of EarthPol, released on July 13, 2022, and concluded on August 31, 2022, making it one of the shortest EarthPol versions in the server’s history.

Development and Launch

Sphere of Influence: Lumen introduced a “Sphere of Influence” mechanic that—under the banner of realism—strictly confined nations to claim new towns only within a fixed radius of their capital. In practice, this meant burgeoning empires were blocked from rapid expansion. Many saw it as an artificial curb on creativity and found themselves petitioning staff for manual overrides.

Mandatory Overland Travel: In an effort to simulate pre‑industrial logistics, V5 disabled all teleportation and warp commands between foreign towns, with players having to trek on foot. This led to the endless “walking simulator” grind, which made trading on the server unprofitable and difficult.

Towny Ports Arrive Too Late: Toward the tail end of Lumen, the long‑promised “Towny Ports” system finally launched—but so late that few nations could integrate it. Worse, each docking cost an escalating fee, making transportation a luxury. By the time ports stabilized, most had left the server or struggled to use it.

Nether Overload & Price Collapse: For the first time, EarthPol opened its Nether to players. The result? Netherite—a previously rare end‑game resource—became dirt cheap. By the version's end, its market value down to a mere 50 gold per ingot. What was meant to add a high‑stakes resource hunt instead hollowed out the economy.

McMMO “Shaking”: Despite staff assurances, the McMMO “Shaking” feature wasn’t fully disabled. Beacon‑farmers discovered they could mass produce beacons in hours. As a result, the beacon economy suffered as the items became more common.

Major Events

The Greco-Ottoman War: A series of conflicts perpetuated by the Kingdom of Greece and the Ottoman Empire, continuing their rivalry from Nebula.

The Villager Genocide: On August 14, 2022, during a plugin test, all villagers of active towns died. Due to database inconsistency, coreprotect rollbacks were unable to restore all villagers that had been lost, sparking outrage among the community and halting any trade of enchanted books.
